RESEARCH STATEMENT

My research focuses on the successful management of instructional design projects in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and corporate training. My goal is to understand how different approaches can be used to ensure successful project outcomes. I am particularly interested in exploring how instructional designers value various project management knowledge, skills, and abilities to contribute to more effective instructional design practices. I am interested in gaining insights into instructional designers' preferred methods of managing instructional design projects. Ultimately, I want to create a reliable framework upon which future generations can build as they tackle ever-evolving challenges within the field.

My doctoral research explores the value of project management strategies for instructional design. Specifically, I plan to study how context, processes, and people impact the success of instructional design projects. Through my research, I aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of how instructional design project management can be improved for maximum efficiency and effectiveness, leading to successful project outcomes.

My research findings will be used to develop practical recommendations for instructional design project management in various sectors to promote successful learning outcomes. I anticipate that the results of this study will provide useful insights to administrators, educational professionals, and other stakeholders in the instructional design project management field. Ultimately, I hope that this research will contribute to more efficient and effective utilization of resources within the sector, resulting in improved learning outcomes for students across all levels of education.

I am the lead author for chapter three and coauthor for chapter four in the Educational Medica and Technology yearbook (44th Ed). I have a coauthored paper, "Factors that Affect a Teacher's Use of Technology: A Synthesis of Path Analyses from 2008-2018," in the review in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education. I am the lead author of a literature review, "Examining the Importance of Project Management to Instructional Designers," to be submitted to Tech Trends later this year.

My future research will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, I plan to survey instructional design professionals and analyze successful projects from the past decade. This data will form the foundation for my second phase: designing and delivering an effective training program that incorporates best practices for managing instructional design projects. The focus will be placed on managing instructional design projects and how to meet the needs of various sectors. To begin, I will review existing literature on project management strategies and analyze their efficacy extensively. Depending on the sector, I will identify potential modifications necessary for successful implementation through various methods. For example, when analyzing a healthcare sector, it may be necessary to consider cultural beliefs about patient education or privacy concerns that could impact instructional design recommendations.

My research will contribute to instructional design project management knowledge and provide new perspectives on ensuring successful outcomes in various contexts. This research has been designed with a larger goal in mind—to identify tangible strategies that can be used by instructional designers, trainers, and educators to create more effective projects. My long-term objective is to develop an evidence-based methodology for managing instructional design projects across multiple industries.
